Stephen J. A. Ward is an internationally recognized media ethicist, author, and educator whose career bridges frontline journalism and philosophical inquiry. A former war correspondent and newsroom manager, he covered major conflicts across Yugoslavia, Bosnia, and Northern Ireland before transitioning into academia, where he helped establish leading journalism programs such as at the University of British Columbia and was founding director of the Center for Journalism Ethics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Now writing as an independent scholar, he focuses his research on global ethics, the history of ideas, and the future of democracy amid extremism and irrational publics.
